I don’t believe in god. Yet I also do not believe the rest of us should pay for the existence of the lazy. If you run up a $50K student loan, the rest of us shouldn’t have to pay for your ‘mistake’. Get a JOB with that DEGREE and pay your own way. Have a talk with DAVE RAMSEY. He will set you strait.

I’m so not a Christian, and don’t believe in the sky-god, but…
Hey, remember that story about Jesus feeding a whole bunch of people with a fish and a loaf of bread? All those hungry people who didn’t pay for the food, or go out and catch their own stupid fish?
I’ll tell you one thing, though. If Jesus went home, had a poop, and found $600,000 in his outhouse, guaranteed, he wouldn’t use that cash for the poor and underprivileged. He’d invest in guns and war, and build a kickin’ new wing on the mansion. Guaranteed.
I think that whole loaves and fishes thing was fake news.

“I’d rather the taxes I pay go towards helping people who need it, rather than going towards an obscene military budget, or propping up multi billion dollar corporations” is enough in some peoples eyes to count as socialism.

I agree with both sides here. I would rather spend $ on feeding the poor than feeding an F-35. But look at it this way…if we didn’t have nuclear weapons in this world, we would have already went through another 2 world wars. And if we didn’t have to spend $ on $13B (unequipped) Aircraft carriers, we could afford to help the mentally ill (yes, there are a LOT of them) and to properly help those who live from paycheck to paycheck. I know we see a lot of sci-fi movies where iniquitous aliens attack Earth. But I really doubt there are beings out there as bad as humans. The planet would be doing much better without us here destroying here. And that is a FACT.

@sable663 - Hear hear! And yes, there are a lot of us mentally ill folk. Many of us aren’t treatable with any method presently available, even with funding. So we turn to escapism and suicide to make the pain stop, because no one knows of a way to help us.
You nailed the real problem: people are just terrible. We could easily feed and house everyone if we wanted to, as Hawking noted before his death. But we don’t want to. Instead we have billionaires going into space and paying nothing back into the system that enabled their success in the first place. Musk thinks he’s self made? Try building rockets with no roads or ports, or hiring staff with no schools. Ignoring the fact that his father owned an Emerald mine. If any member of a person’s family owns an emerald mine under apartheid then that person is categorically not ’self-made.’
Capitalism once was able to raise people’s standard of living, and it still does in some places, but the main thing its about now seems to be turning debt into profit without the normal intermediary step of producing anything of value. You know, the social justification for why we tolerate free enterprise in the first place: the efficient creation of value.
Capitalism still has utility, but I think the last 40 years have taught us that unregulated capitalism is just as destructive to society as communism is, with the additional negative that at least under Russian communism almost everyone had a place to live, and a clear enemy for when it came time to revolt.

@Kansas91 Whats the south rising to again? Slavery? Because that’s what your known for in the past. Not really something you should be proud of. What else racism because you guys a butt load of that too. It’s probably best to let that past die and not rise again. My grandparents immigrated from Italy to escape communism and come to the land of the free. When they got here they were treated like garbage. Italians couldn’t get jobs and had a tough time finding places to live. They did not expect the racism that was here in the US. But we overcame that and now look at us Italians run things these days. Africans were forced here and experienced the worst america had to offer. You really want that to rise again.

Rise, avoid any hint of factual reality while wrapping their eyes (not their mouth and nose because that would be oppression🙄👈) in a holy blindfold and feeling their way out of trump tower or mc mansion (whatever the hypocritical case may be), and finally finding the place they most belong - skipping along and utterly oblivious to the world around them. Which in this case is heavy traffic during rush hour. God does INDEED work in mysterious ways.
A fully loaded 80 thousand pound semi truck less so. 🙏
