Fossil Future: Why Global Human Flourishing Requires More Oil, Coal, and Natural Gas–Not Less - Alex Epstein Audiobook

The New York Times bestselling author of The Moral Case for Fossil Fuels draws on the latest data and new insights to challenge everything you thought you knew about the future of energy
For over a decade, philosopher and energy expert Alex Epstein has predicted that any negative impacts of fossil fuel use on our climate will be outweighed by the unique benefits of fossil fuels to human flourishing–including their unrivaled ability to provide low-cost, reliable energy to billions of people around the world, especially the world’s poorest people.
And contrary to what we hear from media “experts” about today’s “renewable revolution” and “climate emergency,” reality has proven Epstein right:
- Fact: Fossil fuels are still the dominant source of energy around the world, and growing fast–while much-hyped renewables are causing skyrocketing electricity prices and increased blackouts.
- Fact: Fossil-fueled development has brought global poverty to an all-time low.
- Fact: While fossil fuels have contributed to the 1 degree of warming in the last 170 years, climate-related deaths are at all-time lows thanks to fossil-fueled development.
What does the future hold? In Fossil Future, Epstein, applying his distinctive “human flourishing framework” to the latest evidence, comes to the shocking conclusion that the benefits of fossil fuels will continue to far outweigh their side effects–including climate impacts–for generations to come. The path to global human flourishing, Epstein argues, is a combination of using more fossil fuels, getting better at “climate mastery,” and establishing “energy freedom” policies that allow nuclear and other truly promising alternatives to reach their full long-term potential.
Today’s pervasive claims of imminent climate catastrophe and imminent renewable energy dominance, Epstein shows, are based on what he calls the “anti-impact framework”–a set of faulty methods, false assumptions, and anti-human values that have caused the media’s designated experts to make wildly wrong predictions about fossil fuels, climate, and renewables for the last fifty years. Deeply researched and wide-ranging, this book will cause you to rethink everything you thought you knew about the future of our energy use, our environment, and our climate.

and the coal, oil, gas etc will of course be replenished by our god-given politicians, all of whomc an work miracles.
maybe we should put some truly serious thought to the efficient harnessing of wind, sun, and tide or, better yet our biggest source of potential energy - our ownd garbage, how about an engine that can run on treated plastic? Gravity is a form of energy, maybe it can be mirrored or reversed in some clever way. I dunno - it has probably allbeen squshed already by the oil giants.

Electrical power technology is not practical as yet. Fossil fuels are used in hundreds of products and processes. As a nation we are racing towards our own demise. In California we have “brown outs” on a regular basis, and the push here is for electric power with no means of delivering it. Insanity!

When I see “experts” in scare quotes I know whoever wrote it is an imbecile.
BA in philosophy. More inclined to listen to an actual scientist, personally.

You put enough carbon into the atmosphere our planet will turn into what Venus is now. That is a fact. You can see that our polls are melting. We have exactly 1 place that we know of where life can live. Even the oil companies dont deny that carbon will kill the planet.

Indeed 10 million years of stored sunlight buried in the earth has made the modern world and brought us all (mostly white men until recently) almost endless dopamine hits. Too bad it’s triggered catastrophic runaway global heating. Hot house mass extinctions are nothing new to this planet & the only difference this time is a clever & rapacious ape dug up the carbon and burned it instead of volcanism doing it.
BTW, peak oil (conventional) hit in 2018, so even without runaway climate change & a mass extinction there would be a mass human dieback/cull. Climate change is only responsible for about 1/2 of the damage. The rest is pollution, habitat destruction, & hunting. Even without climate change humans still caused a mass extinction and would only have an extra century until die back and the collapse of civilization. It always ends the same for all cancers.
They say we have triggered the 6th mass extinction, but there have been new findings since then, so we have started/caused the 8th mass extinction (that we know of).
Notice how this one is also hot house mass extinction triggered by global warming which was triggered by massive releases of green house gasses into the atmosphere vis volcanism. Same as the Permian and others. I would not be surprised if we find evidence for other hot house extinctions, in the short time civilization has left.
‘Newly discovered mass extinction event triggered the dawn of the dinosaurs’
“Huge volcanic eruptions 233 million years ago pumped carbon dioxide, methane and water vapour into the atmosphere. This series of violent explosions, on what we now know as the west coast of Canada, led to massive global warming. Our new research has revealed that this was a planet-changing mass extinction event that killed off many of the dominant tetrapods and heralded the dawn of the dinosaurs.”

Life is carbon based. Zero carbon = zero life.

Great audiobook, very good quality.
The people one-starring this are the ones who clearly have not listened to it and should, they would then understand the flaws in their reasoning. If only they would.

While fossil fuels have literally fueled the world’s prosperity, our current course is not sustainable. When the Amazon, permafrost in Russia, Alaska and Canada all have unprecedented fires we know there’s something wrong. We virtually have no winter where I live. We are only seeing the very beginning of negative consequences of climate change. We are having mass extinction. I do put humans before other animals but we are going to kill ourselves if we keep on going on the same path. I am not pie-in-the-sky saying that we need to cut off fossil fuels right away but we do need to start working on other technologies pronto. There is hope solar and wind are cheaper energy than coal but there are are still a lot of kinks to work out which we need to continue to iron out our new problems. Even if global warming is a complete hoax (which it isn’t), There is no doubt that we will run out of oil someday and even now we have to continuously and expensively coax the oil out with fracking. Invest now in new technologies so there’s less pain later.

I would not say we need more use of fossil fuels, but we do most certainly need them currently.
What we do need is to stop listening to people that have no idea as to the ramifications of our current headlong rush into oblivion by adopting so-called ‘green’ alternatives, that are in the long run a hell of a lot worse for the planet.

Another from the group of plucky people funded by the fossil fuel industry, that courageously oppose the scientific consensus, and come to some surprising conclusions, that only happen to be to the benefit of major fossil fuel corporations.
If it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is. Getting to keep going with business as usual is too good to be true.

This book is hilarious I cant believe these corporate shills are producing stuff like this still. IT has become obvious that the planet has been raped and pillaged for every resource it has and the unending population growth is destroying what is left of our environment.
Human prosperity yea ok now ExxonMobil is worried about poor people lolol

Could not split the mp3 file UNTIL I FIXED THE ERRORS IN THE CUE FILE…!
Open the Cue file in Notepad.
change 168:38:81 to 168:38:74
change 927:56:87 to 927:56:74
change 974:27:75 to 974:27:74
Save.
Now the cue file can be opened using a program like Medieval CUE SPLITTER and the individual tracks/Chapters separated easily.
Haven’t listened to the whole book yet, so I can’t rate it… but the information in the first chapter which I’ve listened to so far is very good, though I don’t care for the authors reading of the material. His inflections seem to be a bit odd, and it sounds like he’s reading and because of the odd inflections, it doesn’t sound like he actually wrote what he’s reading, at least to me. I kinda wish he hired someone else to read it for him… not to mention he tends to be a bit long-winded in his writing.

Genuinely a moronic book. We’re facing a world of climate break down due to our use of fossil fuel.
