I suppose quite a few of us are appalled that we have lived to see a Klan mob storm the Capitol demanding that Black votes be disallowed, but then the US seems to have seriously lost its way since it found Jesus.
A sound history of voter suppression is urgently needed for the informed democrat at the moment, and I’ve heard good things about this volume.

hahahahahaha so people of color are voting in greater percentages than ever before but that doesn’t matter to the narrative …..what a load of garbage this book is if they are trying to make the case that voting rights are anything but the strongest they have ever been….SMH crying “voter suppression” is just a weapon that losers of elections cry when they can’t believe they lost. Just look at Stacy Abrams for an example of someone who made a career and a fortune crying wolf.

When did the US ever loose Jesus? I’d say it’s been a beacon of religiosity from the beginning. If anything there are a higher percentage of “nones” now than ever before.

Wait, what? The black vote is “suppressed”? Give me a break. So, the Dem vote was so suppressed that they had to make up votes to balance it out. Right. Got it

My American born white Caucasian sister was unable to vote last year because she doesn’t have a legal birth certificate. the hospital and the courthouse are both gone. She moved from one state to one that has developed strict regulations following the bipartisan Patriot Act. That being said, I hardly think that anyone can make an adequate argument that a voter ID suppresses the black vote.

You can pretend the laws today aren’t voter suppression, but you’ve have to overtly racist to think that wasn’t the goal during Jim Crow. Now we have laws that have a direct line to those from Jim Crow, doing the same thing they did then, but to many of you, you’d dismiss it because they aren’t so dumb as to explicitly acknowledge race.

All you have to do is think logically, which is tough for reactionaries. What problem are these laws trying to solve? What do the people pushing them have to gain, besides affecting the net total votes likely cast against them? It’s about choosing your voters, just as much as gerrymandering. Learning the history, which is dangerous for those who like to pretend the past is not still with us, shows the evolution - but not at all the death - of voter suppression.
