Most people assume that racism grows from a perception of human difference: the fact of race gives rise to the practice of racism. Sociologist Karen E. Fields and historian Barbara J. Fields argue otherwise: the practice of racism produces the illusion of race, through what they call “racecraft.” And this phenomenon is intimately entwined with other forms of inequality in American life. So pervasive are the devices of racecraft in American history, economic doctrine, politics, and everyday thinking that the presence of racecraft itself goes unnoticed.
That the promised post-racial age has not dawned, the authors argue, reflects the failure of Americans to develop a legitimate language for thinking about and discussing inequality. That failure should worry everyone who cares about democratic institutions.

Whites have practiced racism against all other races and minorities for centuries. Why don’t they want to get a taste of their own medicine for a chance :-) White supremacy is the fiction!

You racists really ought to read this book. It’s not what you think. It deconstructs ideas of black nationalism as much as white nationalism.
From a white guy who specialized in American social history as an undergraduate and graduate student. (Social history is the history of regular people in America, downward and upward social mobility, etc.)

I’m a life-long conservative Republican. Add retired military to that list of credentials.
If you comment here that this book is some kind of victimhood parade or a sales pitch against white people or in favor of black people, you didn’t read the book. It was well sourced and covered both the history and socio-psychological nuances of the way race has played out in America.
