A detailed disassembly manual for people who want to dismantle Big Tech
We have recently seen the enshittification of the internet. The tech platforms have created monopolies whose high walls make it expensive to move freely online. They built self-serving, artificial barriers to maintaining connections across platforms. The cost of leaving X or Facebook grew higher, holding hostage the people you love, the communities that matter to you, and the audiences and customers you rely on. None of this is caused by technological it was a business decision, intended to commodify every part of your personal life.
We can choose we can dismantle the tech platforms. In The Internet Con , Cory Doctorow explains how to seize the means of computation. We must force upon Silicon Valley the thing it fears interoperability. That means tearing down the walls between platforms, allowing users to mix, match, plug in, and repair without restrictions.
Interoperability is the only route to the rapid and total annihilation of the platforms. The Internet Con is the disassembly manual we need to fix tech for good, and take back our Internet.

People are going to play and operate where it’s convenient for them to earn a profit and find their pleasure. It’s not political unless you want to make it political. Business in praxis should be about: supplying client x with product y so that the merchant may earn a slice of the profit z. If your business is selling ideologies, you can browse the religion, politics, and culture sections. You’ll still make a buck. Don’t worry.

@qp1029384756 centralized control, aka world communism, isn’t ultimately about making a profit. It is about control, exhibit A: Scamdemic. Everyone should be against big tech monopoly, they censor without cause or explanation for ruthless industries like big pharma, demonetize and use sociopathic stasi tactics against their users. And now Gulag has used those who were at Jan 6 over to the state, just because they were using their spyware called android. The lack of concern on the left shows just how much they hate the constitution.

Stop it with the political sniping, this book ought to have bipartisan acceptance - - decentralization of technology and making internet tech lean, functional and user-focused again, getting rid of artificially constructed walled-gardens - - benefits everyone on the Left and the Right.
