  I don’t think this book is allowed to say that word. Last year they were called BAME. Anybody know what this year’s phrase, acronym or word is for the negros ?

  Zora Neale Hurston is one of the world’s most celebrated writers? Lol.

  If I took a straw poll in my local library, I guarantee that not even the librarian has heard of them.

  Sadly for the woke industrial complex, if not for everyone else, the time is up on playing racism or sexism for victimhood points, in a recession no one can afford the tickets to keep the clown show running.

  I do like the fact that with all the file lengths showing, we can see that many of these “essays” are more akin to “postcards”. But whatever, enjoy.

  Lol, essays are quite often a bit short - literary postcards, indeed.
  Lack of familiarity might be “one” of the problems here. Hurston was a truly great artist. Genuinely literate & erudite people will be aware that “Their Eyes Were Watching God” is one of the finest American books of the last century. For “straw poll in my local library” read “racist exchange in my local Beer Hall.”

  @souljacker - Racist rob’s a closet case; consequently, boobs hold no allure for him. We ought to affirm his latent identity, & help him through his many & varied challenges. In addition, exhorting such a vulnerable type to “touch some boobs” (which would perforce be nonconsensual) might eventually turn a racist rob into a rapist rob.

  Bang on, Klyftan. I had a tutor who was quite the enthusiast for Hurston’s work. It’s disappointing, all the same, that our many Beer Hall littérateurs & elevated aesthetes are not as conversant with her great work as one might wish.
