What is capitalism? Is capitalism the same everywhere? Is there an alternative?
The word capitalism is one that is heard and used frequently, but what is capitalism really all about, and what does it mean? This Very Short Introduction audiobook addresses questions such as, “what is capital?” before discussing the history and development of capitalism through several detailed case studies, ranging from the tulipomania of 17th-century Holland, the Great Depression of the 1930s, and, in this new edition, the impact of the global financial crisis that started in 2007-08.
James Fulcher looks at the different forms that capitalism takes in Britain, Japan, Sweden, and the United States, and explores whether capitalism has escaped the nation-state by going global. It ends by asking whether there is an alternative to capitalism, discussing socialism, communal and cooperative experiments, and the alternatives proposed by environmentalists.

> A Very Short Introduction on how to oppress the working man and how to maximize profits at all costs.
CAPITALISM: the working man really works, produces goods the capitalist can sell, gets real salary
SOCIALISM: the working man mostly pretends to work, produces goods nobody wants, gets pretend salary
Real World vs. Pretend World

Shut up alnilam. You’re not convincing anyone.

@alnilam as promised, two for every one of yours until you stop posting this drivel. Let’s see if the pair of us can irritate the mods so much they completely shut down comments on the site.
> If you think of yourself as a follower of Christ’s teachings, if you consider yourself a good person, you are morally obligated to be against greed. It’s your duty as a good person to be against exploitation. It’s your moral duty to be against predatory capitalism.
> Have you ever played Monopoly? It’s a board game designed to teach kids capitalism. And what happens in the end? The winner has all the money, and everyone else has nothing. Woohoo! So much fun! That’s literally how America works. That’s why there are a few super rich people who own almost everything, and tens of millions of dirt poor people who have nothing.

When it comes to progressive mods — and likely progressive owners and policy makers behind the scenes (assuming the former and the latter are not the same) — there’s no sure way to know what they are really up to.
So I would not bet on anything they say or imply, one way or the other (where some might see dancing hand shadows on the wall, others might see hands, making those very shadows).

daenigma, you’re the best!
(although I’ve read this book and could be a little better haha)
But it is a nice book to introduce a discussion, thnks as always!!
also, this second edition has a different accent from the audio done for the first edition by Audible years ago (present in the VSI collection posted here) - It is a nice way to practice and improve English, thnk you a lot!

It would be interesting to see what concepts or narrative has changed between editions.
In the not too distant future(3rd edition of this VSI), the story of socialism will be the equivalent evil.
Vive la communism ✊

Also, thanks. These VSI’s usually give a nice overview of opinion on their given topics.
